Many heron species (like the Great Blue Heron or Great Egret) are tidal feeders. They actively time their hunting to coincide with the flood tide (the incoming tide). As the water rises, it pushes small fish, crustaceans, and amphibians into shallow areas, marshes, or against mudflats, making them much easier for the heron to catch.
